Our visiting carers put their hearts into each assignment, by providing the highest standard of one-to-one care to people in their own homes to support them in their daily life. Each home visit can last from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the individual client’s needs, but in this extremely rewarding role, no two days are ever the same.
As a visiting care assistant, you’ll focus on helping the people you care for to live comfortably and safely in their own home and familiar surroundings. It’s about helping clients with a range of daily activities, from getting dressed to supporting with nutritious meal preparation. A visiting carer, also known as a domiciliary carer or care assistant, visits people in their own home, helping them with personal care, like bathing, dressing, assisting with medication, or even mobility and moving. As a visiting carer, you’ll be paid an hourly rate, and you may need to visit many people throughout your shift. .
We believe the best visiting carers have:
- A genuinely caring, compassionate and empathetic attitude
- A good level of spoken and written English
- An ability to follow instructions
- A good sense of responsibility and the ability to work unsupervised
- An ability to cope under pressure
- An ability to deal with emergencies
- Lots of flexibility when it comes to availability
- A full driving licence and access to a car
- Ideally some previous experience of care, but it’s not essential
As a visiting care assistant, you may need to visit several clients throughout your working day to provide companionship and personal care as part of their bespoke care plans.
Each client’s personal care plan is created by your Care Manager before we start delivering care. While you’re with clients, you’ll need to record daily notes and communicate with your care management team on a regular basis. We’ll also provide full carer training and support in all aspects of care too, to get you up to speed quickly.
Someone from our recruitment team or local branch will interview you, check your paperwork thoroughly, and ask you questions. What we’re looking for is an understanding of your skills, interests and personal objectives so we can get to know you a little better, and assess your suitability for the visiting carerrole.

We take great pride in our learning and development programme. When you join us as a care assistant , we’ll encourage you to develop your care career by participating in our advanced training modules – for example, learning about dementia or another field as part of our specialist training.
We provide visiting home care services from our branches across the South and East of England, and have new clients join us each week. There is lots of work, which means we’re always looking for new visiting carers to join our team.
Once you join us as a visiting care assistant, our bookings co-ordinator will keep an eye on where you live and the distance you travel between your hourly visits so we can keep your driving to a minimum. However, in busy periods, or if we need you to cover illness and holidays we might ask you to cover larger distances. We pay 45p mileage for all travel between clients.
Our visiting carers wear a purple tunic (which we’ll give you during your training course) along with your own smart black . We also provide a branded fleece. All you need to bring are some sturdy black shoes that are comfortable to work in – you shouldn’t wear boots, heels or flimsy sandals.
