Our lovely client Mr N is in his early 50’s. He lives alone and has cerebral palsy. He doesn’t let the symptoms or being confined to a wheelchair stop him having social life and has a good circle of friends. Concerningly, Mr N was mistreated by his previous in-home care company and so starting anew with us and, understandably, was apprehensive about trusting new carers.
Our carers soon put Mr N at ease and now, 7 years on with Berkeley Home Health (Somerset and Wiltshire branch), he has three trusted visiting in-home carers. He has three visits a day supporting him with getting up in the morning, personal care, lunch times, and settling him in bed at night. The carers also help with his two much loved dogs. Maddy, one of his carers, also helps to organise his life and social engagements.
Mr N says of his care:
“I am extremely happy with the care I receive; the whole team is brilliant. I enjoy having their visits.”
Mr N enjoys woodwork and is very talented, making dog homes, furniture, and parts for carnival floats. The carers always ensure that they clear the floors of woodwork shavings in his man-cave (shed) and around the home to ensure he can manoeuvre easily around. They have got to know his requirements and do what is needed without being asked such as clearing out the cupboards and cleaning them.
Mr N does require some mental health support every so often and our carers provide the extra support and understanding he needs during these times; encouraging him to keep up with his social plans and often to be there to listen.
