In recognition of Professional Care Workers week, we caught up with one of our professional live-in carers, Elisabete Shaw, to explore what inspired them to join the care industry.
Elisabete explained that after an aptitude test, she was encouraged to pursue a career working with adults and children. She has always thought that this aspect of her personality came from her Italian grandparents, who were caring and supportive people.
So, listening to the career advice, Elisabete starting her career in the professional care sector. Elisabete has now been with Trinity Homecare for 21 years and has continued to find her role very satisfying. She enjoys providing her clients with the much-needed companionship, empathy and patience they need, while having the flexibility of her work schedule to fit around her personal life.
Elisabete is always on hand to provide a listening ear to her clients, learning about their past experiences and adventures. From exciting carers to wartime tales, Elisabete builds strong friendships with the people she cares for, with one client being in her care for over 14 years.
Even though some of the complex placements can be a challenge, Elisabete explained how she finds these cases rewarding and fulfilling. Being able to bring light into someone’s life when they are not necessarily feeling their best. For example, people living with advanced dementia can be challenging but knowing you are having a positive input keeps her focussed. Also, the accessible support provided by the head office means she always has someone on hand to help and guide her, when needed.
